Steward Health Care Systems Bids For Rhode Island's Landmark Medical Center

Listen
Boston-based Steward Health Care Systems has made an offer to buy the troubled Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, R.I., according to a Providence Journal report.

After two days of urgent negotiations, the system came forward last Thursday with a signed asset-purchase agreement and $1 million deposit. Steward has also reached a tentative agreement with United Nurses and Allied Professionals, the union representing nearly half of the hospital's 1,300 workers.

The deal still requires approval by a Superior Court judge.
