St. John's to explore joining Montefiore Health System

Bronx, N.Y.-based Montefiore Health System and its clinical affiliate St. John's Riverside Hospital in Yonkers, N.Y., are in talks for St. John's to formally join Montefiore.

Montefiore is an 11-hospital system with a primary and specialty care network of more than 180 locations, an extended care facility, the Montefiore School of Nursing and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. St. John's serves the residents of Yonkers and southern Westchester County with a staff of more than 450 physicians.

While few details about the potential integration are available, Lynn Richmond, NP, executive vice president and chief strategy officer of Montefiore, expressed excitement about the possibilities.

"This decision [to enter talks about a potential integration] builds on a long-standing partnership formally launched when we entered our clinical affiliation in 2014, and as important partners in Montefiore's Hudson Valley Collaborative," she said in a prepared statement. "Montefiore brings its academic excellence to the outstanding care provided at St. John's. Both Montefiore and St. John's share a commitment to advancing the health of the communities we serve. We are deeply committed to transforming and evolving care in the region, keeping it local, affordable and accessible."
