Piedmont, Athens Regional partnership clears final regulatory hurdle

The Georgia Attorney General has ruled in favor of a partnership agreement between Athens (Ga.) Regional Health System and Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare.

With the AG’s approval, Athens Regional will become Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center Oct. 1. It will be the seventh community hospital in Piedmont’s system.

Piedmont and Athens Regional announced the terms of the partnership agreement in December.
