The health system previously said it would decide on a buyer by the end of this year.
Although not officially announced by the hospital, Community Health Systems and Legacy Hospital Partners have emerged as buyers for the system.
Two dozen Mercy employees and community members have since urged Mercy not to sell to CHS due to reports that employees at nearby Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, which is owned by CHS, are not satisfied with how the company operates the hospital, according to the report.
