The proposal for New York City-based Maimonides Health to join NYC Health + Hospitals’ received unanimous approval from the New York State Public Health and Health Planning Council Sept. 17.
Five things to know:
1. The transaction still needs approval under New York State law before it can be finalized, according to a Sept. 17 NYC Health + Hospitals news release.
2. Maimonides Health includes three hospitals and dozens of community-based sites. The partnership is supported by $2.2 billion over five years from New York State.
3. By joining NYC Health + Hospitals, Maimonides Health will receive more than $2.2 billion in grant funding over five years, including more than $500 million to adopt an EHR, upgrade labor and delivery spaces and make other capital improvements.
4. Maimonides Health hopes to receive final regulatory and legal approvals in fall 2026, President and CEO Ken Gibbs said in the release.
5. The planning council’s Establishment and Project Review Committee voted unanimously Aug. 27 to approve the transaction. Maimonides Health moved to join the public health system in December.
