Kennedy Health will serve as the southern New Jersey core of Jefferson Health. The deal marks the first time a Philadelphia health system has merged with a southern New Jersey health system, Jefferson Health officials said.

The institutions announced the transaction in January 2016. The organizations signed a definitive agreement to merge last August.
