Here are three things to know about the proposed merger.
1. The combined nonprofit system is expected to pull in annual revenues of $2.4 billion and provide care to 1.5 million residents across the two states. The merged entity will comprise 12,000-plus employees and 2,600 aligned physicians.
2. The proposed merger is subject to regulatory approval. Officials expect to launch the system in 2019. Until the deal is approved, both organizations will continue to operate under their own brands and retain their individual corporate headquarters.
3. If approved, John Murphy, MD, president and CEO of WCHN, will serve as CEO of the combined system, while Robert Friedberg, president and CEO of Health Quest, will serve as president. The merged entity will also create a new board of directors with equal representation from both organizations.
