CommonSpirit buys stake in Arabian hospital group

Dignity Health International, the international arm of Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health, has acquired a minority equity stake in RAK Hospital, one of the United Arab Emirates' most acclaimed private hospitals, according to the Khaleej Times.

RAK Hospital is the flagship multispecialty hospital of Arabian Healthcare Group, a healthcare management and consulting firm that CommonSpirit partnered with in 2018.

Under the expanded partnership, AHG will become the common platform to provide advanced healthcare services in the UAE and in the wider Middle East and North Africa regions.

The partnership will provide access to specialty care in several areas, including cardiac services, musculoskeletal conditions, neurosciences and rehabilitation. For patients with advanced medical requirements, RAK Hospital will facilitate the patient's journey by aligning them with the most suitable facility from CommonSpirit's 140 hospitals and more than 1,500 care sites in the U.S., according to the report.

"Our mission to improve the health of all people extends beyond the United States," Dan Morissette, CFO of CommonSpirit, said. "We are thrilled to further bolster our relationship with RAK Hospital to bring CommonSpirit's clinical expertise, innovation and high quality of healthcare to the MENA region," said Dan Morissette, CFO of CommonSpirit."

Dr. Raza Siddiqui, CEO of Arabian Healthcare Group and executive director of RAK Hospital, said this is the first time a top U.S. health system has directly invested in a hospital in the Middle East.
