Centra Health Acquires Bedford Memorial Hospital

Lynchburg, Va.-based Centra Health has taken full ownership of Bedford (Va.) Memorial Hospital for $12 million, according to an article in Work It, Lynchburg.

Bedford Memorial Hospital was previously owned by Carilion Clinic, a nonprofit healthcare organization based in Roanoke, Va. Before the full ownership announcement, Centra and Carilion were running the hospital as a 50-50 partnership.

Over the next five years, Centra will make an estimated $11 million to $12 million in capital investments in the hospital including additional staff. Centra is also pursuing partnerships with area practices and will expand and update the hospital’s emergency room and implement cosmetic changes and infrastructural upgrades.
