CaroMont Health Offers Gaston County $45.5M Offer for Hospital, Land

CaroMont Health, based in Gastonia, N.C., has offered the Gaston Board of County Commissioners $45.5 million for CaroMont Regional Medical Center and the land it sits on, according to a Charlotte Business Journal report.

CaroMont currently leases the land and the hospital buildings from the county for $1 per year. This is the third offer the health system has made to purchase the land. County commissioners rejected an offer of approximately $17.2 million last fall and a nearly $13 million offer before that, according to the report.

County commissioners aren't interested in selling the hospital, said Mickey Price, chairman of the board. Additionally, Price said the county and CaroMont need to address other issues including the healthcare system's search for a new CEO, long emergency room wait times and hiring and retaining hospitalists before considering a possible sale, according to the report.
