Emanuel CEO John Sigsbury confirmed to the Modesto Bee that the FTC was reviewing the sale. As part of the deal, Tenet’s Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, Calif., would merge with Emanuel, giving Tenet a strong presence in that area of central California. Tenet also owns Doctors Hospital of Manteca (Calif.), which is only 15 miles from Modesto and 30 miles from Turlock.
Tenet and the 209-bed Emanuel signed a definitive agreement in February, one of the only individual hospital deals Tenet has made in 2013. In June, Tenet announced it will buy Vanguard Health Systems, based in Nashville, Tenn., for $4.3 billion.
