Here are four things to know about the planned partnership.

1. Pending state regulatory approval, the agreement would establish Burke as a hub in Westchester for acute, comprehensive rehabilitative care.

2. Under the partnership, Burke, which specializes in neurological, orthopedic and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, will continue to operate as an inpatient rehabilitation hospital under the Burke brand, as well as operate its outpatient clinics and programs throughout Westchester County, the Bronx and the Hudson Valley.

3. Burke Medical Research Institute will remain independent of Montefiore, but will continue to work closely with Burke Rehabilitation Hospital to develop new therapeutic approaches for a number of impairments that cause disability.

4. The partnership overall will allow the institutions to combine their complementary strength “to create new rehabilitative care models which will further world-class provider education and advance the role of rehabilitation medicine in the team-based care model advanced by Montefiore,” the organizations said.
