In December, BJC HealthCare announced it would roll out a $1 billion, three-part renewal project for its entire medical campus, which includes Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine.
The health system is looking to consolidate obstetrics and gynecological services on the north side of its medical campus, while heart and vascular, neurology, neurosurgery, transplant, critical care, and medical and surgical services will consolidate on the south side.
The Shoenberg School of Nursing is expected to be demolished for an expansion of the St. Louis Children’s Hospital, which could begin next year, according to the report. After all construction projects are complete by 2020, BJC HealthCare’s campus will have 1,728 patient beds, or roughly 200 more than it currently has. In total, the plan will add 1.5 million square feet of building space, and 266,000 square feet will be renovated.
