Little Rock, Ark.-based Baptist Health has reached a definitive agreement to acquire South Arkansas Regional Hospital in El Dorado and add the facility to its system June 14, pending regulatory approvals.
The 151-bed hospital will be renamed Baptist Health Medical Center–El Dorado after the transaction closes, according to a March 11 health system news release.
Designated as a level III trauma center, the hospital provides inpatient and outpatient services including emergency care, obstetrics, cardiology and orthopedics.
Baptist Health was approached by hospital leadership about its interest in merging the hospital into the system, Baptist Health President and CEO Troy Wells said in the release.
“It’s an extremely challenging time for community hospitals and many are looking for a healthcare system to partner with them to remain sustainable,” Mr. Wells said. “Baptist Health continues to have a proven track record for operating rural hospitals efficiently in much needed areas of the state.”
Baptist Health operates 12 hospitals and more than 300 points of access across Arkansas, including more than 75 primary and specialty care clinics. The system employs approximately 12,000 people.
Financial details of the acquisition were not available.
