Once the purchase is finalized, which is expected to occur by July 15, CRMC will suspend operations at Woodland and consolidate the services to CRMC. According to the release, the Woodland facility will no longer be a medical and surgical acute care hospital after the transfer is completed.

In a letter (pdf) from Stephen Donaldson, chairman of the Healthcare Authority of Cullman County, the decision to consolidate the hospitals will enable the health system to consolidate and enhance existing services, create the possibility of opening new services, invest in new technology and equipment and combine physician recruitment efforts.

Approximately 150 employees at Woodland will be affected by the merger. Some of the employees will be given jobs at CRMC or other Woodland-affiliated hospitals; others will remain on staff at Woodland for an “extended period of time” to aid in the suspension of services at the facility.
