6 Recent Hospital Transactions and Partnerships

The following hospital mergers, acquisitions and general transactions took place within the past week, beginning with the most recent.

1. Lahey Health, Winchester Hospital Expected to Finalize Affiliation by July
The Massachusetts Health Policy Commission approved a final report finding Winchester (Mass.) Hospital's proposed affiliation with Lahey Health in Burlington, Mass., could reduce healthcare spending by as much as $2.7 million per year. The deal is expected to close by July 1.

2. Mendota Community Hospital to Affiliate With OSF Healthcare
Mendota (Ill.) Community Hospital signed a letter of intent to affiliate with Peoria, Ill.-based OSF Healthcare System.

3. CHI Looks to Acquire Sylvania Franciscan Health
Sylvania Franciscan Health, a seven-hospital system based in Toledo, Ohio, signed a letter of intent to join Catholic Health Initiatives.

4. Rhode Island Approves Transaction Between CharterCare, Prospect
The Rhode Island Department of Health and Attorney General Peter Kilmartin approved the joint venture between Providence, R.I.-based CharterCare Health Partners and Santa Ana, Calif.-based Prospect Medical Holdings.

5. CHS Calls Off Bert Fish Merger Deal
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems called off a planned acquisition of Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

6. Massachusetts Approves Partners' Acquisitions, But With Conditions
Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley gave the green light to Boston-based Partners HealthCare's bid to acquire Hallmark Health System in Melrose, Mass., and South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Mass., but the state also hammered out an agreement that will alter Partners' negotiating power for the next decade.
