The following healthcare mergers, acquisitions and general transactions took place or were announced in the past week.

1. Ascension to acquire 4 Tennessee hospitals
St. Louis-based Ascension announced an agreement with Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare to acquire four hospitals in Tennessee that were jointly owned by Capella and Ascension's Tennessee ministry, Saint Thomas Health.

2. WellStar pursues deal to buy 5 Georgia hospitals from Tenet
Marietta, Ga.-based WellStar Health System is in talks to buy Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare's five hospitals in Georgia.

3. Munson Healthcare to join forces with another Michigan system
Traverse City, Mich.-based Munson Healthcare partnered with St. Ignace, Mich.-based Mackinac Straits Health System.

4. Prime Healthcare signs letter of intent to acquire Southern Regional Medical Center: 3 things to know
Prime Healthcare Foundation, the nonprofit affiliate of Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services, signed a letter of intent to acquire all assets of Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Ga.

5. NYU Langone pursuing merger with Lutheran Medical Center
NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City is moving forward with a full-asset merger with Lutheran Medical Center, which is also based in New York City.
