Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare has continued to add to its outpatient footprint in 2026, while also acquiring an 8,000-student healthcare college.
Here are five acquisitions the publicly traded, for-profit system has made in 2026:
1. HCA completed its acquisition of The College of Health Care Professions on Sept. 15. CHCP serves more than 8,000 students at 10 campuses across Texas and online programs. It offers more than 20 accredited healthcare programs to prepare students for careers across multiple allied health disciplines. HCA’s acquisition of CHCP comes after decades of collaboration between the two parties through clinical sites, career placement and program advisory boards. Under HCA, the college will continue its focus on academic quality, workforce readiness and student success, all while preserving its mission, programs and adult learning focus.
2. HCA acquired Texas MedClinic, a 40-center urgent care network, on Aug. 1. The system split the locations between two of its Texas joint ventures: Methodist Healthcare, HCA’s 50-50 partnership with Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, took 18 locations, growing its urgent care footprint to 35 total. St. David’s HealthCare, a partnership between HCA and two local nonprofits — St. David’s Foundation and Georgetown Health Foundation — took the other 14, expanding to 39 clinics that will be rebranded St. David’s CareNow Urgent Care. Eight Houston-area clinics became part of HCA Houston Healthcare.
3. HCA acquired 17 urgent care clinics from Urgent Care Group in North Carolina and South Carolina on June 2. The South Carolina locations — in Charleston, Columbia, Myrtle Beach and Spartanburg — became the state’s first HCA CareNow clinics. The North Carolina locations, in Wilmington, kept operating under the existing Medac name.
4. HCA took ownership of Avecina Medical Urgent Care clinics across Jacksonville and North Central Florida on April 1, folding them into the same network as its existing MD Now urgent care brand. The clinics kept the Avecina name but began utilizing much of the technology and resources MD Now uses. Locations span Daytona Beach, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Middleburg, Mount Dora, Ocala, Orange Park, St. Augustine, St. Johns, Summerfield (The Villages) and Yulee.
5. Medical City Healthcare, an HCA subsidiary, acquired 13 CommunityMed urgent care centers across North Texas on Feb. 2, pushing CareNow’s Texas presence past 95 sites.
