Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare acquired Texas MedClinic Aug. 1, a 40-urgent care center network across Texas, according to news releases from Austin, Texas-based St. David’s HealthCare and San Antonio-based Methodist Healthcare.
Methodist Healthcare is a 50-50 co-ownership between HCA and Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas. It comprises 30 facilities, including 11 hospitals and 10 freestanding emergency departments. St. David’s HealthCare is a partnership between HCA Healthcare and two nonprofits, St. David’s Foundation and Georgetown Health Foundation. It comprises nine hospitals, more than 200 care sites and more than 13,200 employees.
Under HCA’s acquisition, Methodist Healthcare has acquired 18 Texas MedClinic urgent facilities, which brought the system’s total number of locations to 35.
“By bringing these locations into the Methodist Healthcare family, we’re creating a more connected healthcare experience while ensuring patients have access to the care they need, close to home,” Dan Miller, president and CEO of Methodist Healthcare, said in the release.
The clinics offer care to children 3 months and older, adults and seniors. They offer walk-in visits and extended hours seven days a week for illness and injuries that require attention but might not need an emergency room visit.
St. David’s HealthCare also took over 14 Texas MedClinic urgent care centers through the acquisition, expanding its urgent care clinic footprint to 39. The clinics will be rebranded as St. David’s CareNow Urgent Care clinics.
“Adding these urgent care facilities significantly expands the St. David’s CareNow footprint into new Central Texas communities, including Burnet, Liberty Hill, Jarrell, Lockhart and Dripping Springs, connecting more patients to the trusted care and resources of St. David’s HealthCare,” David Huffstutler, president and CEO of St. David’s HealthCare, said in the release.
The news comes after HCA acquired 17 urgent care clinics from Urgent Care Group in North Carolina and South Carolina June 2. The health system’s Medical City Healthcare acquired 13 CommunityMed urgent care centers in February to serve under CareNow Urgent Care.
In 2023, HCA purchased 41 urgent care centers in Texas from FastMed and acquired MD Now Urgent Care, a 59-urgent care center network in Florida, in 2022.
