Steward also pledged $19 million in capital improvements at the two hospitals.
The hospital operator announced last week it planned to acquire Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill, Mass., and Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, Mass from Nashville, Tenn.-based Essent Healthcare. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed at that time.
