University of Miami selects current Wake Forest dean to lead medical school

The University of Miami named Edward Abraham, MD, dean of the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, effective July 1.

Here are four things to know about Dr. Abraham and his appointment.

1. Dr. Abraham currently serves as dean of the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest School of Medicine.

2. Prior to his tenure at Wake Forest, Dr. Abraham served as chair of the department of medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

3. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Stanford (Calif.) University and trained in internal and critical care medicine at UC Los Angeles.

4. Dr. Abraham has published more than 350 original research articles, reviews and editorials with a focus on inflammation, neutrophil biology, acute lung injury and sepsis.
