Here are five things to know about Dr. Pugnaire’s professional career.
1. Dr. Pugnaire will remain on the medical school’s faculty as a professor emeritus and continue in her role as the medical school sponsor of the institution’s Dominican Republic Batey Health Initiative, a medical missions trip available to medical and nursing students.
2. Dr. Pugnaire completed her residency in family medicine at UMass Medical School in 1984.
3. During her tenure, she has held a number of executive and administrative roles, including course director of the Longitudinal Preceptor Program, which allows select first- and second-year students the opportunity to work in family physician offices and gain early clinical exposure.
4. Dr. Pugnaire also developed and implemented the institution’s interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation, which provides hands-on simulation development and programming for medical and clinical professionals.
5. Anne Larkin, MD, current vice chair and associate professor of surgery, assistant dean for graduate medical education and director of the LCME accreditation effort, will serve as interim senior associate dean for educational affairs.
