Lewis Katz, the former owner of the Daily News, the Inquirer and Philly.com, graduated from Temple’s College of Science and Technology in 1963. In addition to his work as a businessman, Mr. Katz was a longtime supporter of Temple and a member of its board of trustees. Before he died in a May 2014 plane crash, he announced a $25 million donation to Temple.

Approximately 400 people attended the dedication of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine Oct. 13.

“We may never be able to repay the kindness and generosity of Lewis Katz,” said Temple University President Neil D. Theobald, PhD. “Instead, we’ll pay it forward by advancing the mission of the university that Lewis believed in so deeply, and by reinvesting in our students.”
