Dr. Kaplan-Liss will reportedly share in the development of the medical school’s curriculum and create an environment to help students become more effective communicators.
She told D CEO Healthcare she was drawn to the institution after speaking with Stuart Flynn, MD, dean of the medical school.
“[Dr.] Flynn not only values the importance of communication training for his medical students, but also has the vision to integrate this training throughout all four years,” said Dr. Kaplan-Liss. “This wouldn’t be possible at another university because curriculum is already established and faculty can often be unwilling to make changes.”
Dr. Kaplan-Liss earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Evanston, Ill.-based Northwestern University and earned her medical degree from the New York City-based Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
