Lehigh Valley cancer institute joins Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance

After an intensive, six-month review process, Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network Cancer Institute announced it was officially named the second member of the New York City-based Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance.

This alliance aims to improve the quality of care and outcomes for cancer patients within the community at an accelerated pace.

LVHN's cancer institute was selected to join the alliance because of its dedication to high-quality, consistent cancer care, and because of its expert medical staff. LVHN joins Hartford (Conn.) Healthcare Cancer Institute as an official member. Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida also recently announced its intention to become the third member of the alliance, according to LVHN.

The LVHN Cancer Institute's membership in the alliance will help enhance its own research capabilities to offer more extensive treatment options to patients by providing access to key MSK clinical trials. It will also give LVHN cancer specialists up-to-date information on evidence-based treatments and standards of care and provide regular integrated learning opportunities.

"At LVHN, our commitment to providing quality care has meant that we've long given people access to the latest cancer treatments and clinical trials," LVHN President and CEO Brian Nester, DO, said in a statement. "We also know that when facing a foe like cancer, you can always do more. Memorial Sloan Kettering, a world leader in cancer research, is helping us take our fight against cancer to a new level."
