10 States With the Lowest Number of Emergency Medicine Physicians

South Dakota has the lowest number of emergency medicine physicians in the country and California has the highest number, according to State Health Facts, a project of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.

 

 

The data is compiled from a special data request on state licensing information from Redi-Data, a provider of data services and solutions. The most recent data available is for November 2012.

The 10 states with the lowest numbers of emergency medicine physicians, according to the data, are:

1. New Hampshire — 185    
2. Delaware — 177
3. Nebraska — 166
4. Idaho — 148
5. Alaska — 115
6. Montana — 111
7. Vermont — 79
8. Wyoming — 70
9. North Dakota — 68
10. South Dakota — 46
