Yale to announce Institute of Global Health

New Haven, Conn.-based Yale University will open a new Institute of Global Health, if the initiative is approved by the Yale Corporation, according to the Yale Daily News.

The institute will be a joint partnership between the university's School of Public Health, School of Nursing and School of Medicine. Yale administrators estimate the institute will cost the university roughly $2.5 million in its first three years.

"An institute can also highlight topics that no one is working on as a way to motivate faculty to work on something," Ashish Jha, MD, the faculty director of the Cambridge, Mass.-based Harvard Global Health Institute, explained about the importance of global health institutes. "Institutes can try to get the university to tackle really big complicated topics that no single faculty can take on."
