Here are three things to know about rudeness in the workplace.
1. In 1998, 49 percent of employees felt they were treated rudely by coworkers at least once a month. Rude behavior includes insults, crude language or interruptions. In 2016, 62 percent of employees felt they endured rude behavior at the office.
2. After encountering rude behavior, 80 percent of employees said they lost time at work worrying about the incident while 48 percent intentionally decreased their work effort.
3. After McKinsey researchers observed a team brainstorm at one company, one senior VP said he’d made 25 percent of the comments and only interrupted his colleagues three times. However, the other employees present at the meeting said the boss had made 65 percent of all comments and interrupted others 20 times.
