1. Allina nurses vote to end strike after months of negotiations and 6 weeks off the job
Allina Health nurses voted to approve a contract offer from their Minneapolis-based employer on Oct. 13, ending nine months of contentious negotiations in which they went on strike twice, according to a Star Tribune report.

2. CMS releases MACRA final rule: 10 things to know
After a listening tour and nearly 4,000 public comments, CMS released the final rule Oct. 14 for the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act, a landmark payment system for Medicare physician fees that replaces the sustainable growth rate formula.

3. Cook County Health and Hospitals to lay off more than 200 employees
More than 200 employees at Chicago-based Cook County Health and Hospitals System are slated to lose their jobs, according to DNAinfo Chicago.

4. CHS faces fraud allegations from investor in Quorum spin-off
Q Investments LP sent a letter to Quorum Health, asking the company's board to conduct an independent investigation into potentially unlawful financial projections related to Quorum's spin-off from Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems.   

5. President of downsized Mount Sinai hospital to resign amid $500M system overhaul
Mount Sinai Health System will shrink its Beth Israel hospital in New York City by roughly 785 beds as part of a $500 million system reorganization. This week, Mount Sinai Beth Israel's president announced her resignation.

6. Sutter to cut 154 jobs under new staffing model
Sutter Care at Home, Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health's home care program, plans to cut 154 jobs in Northern California, according to The Sacramento Bee.

7. Investor sues Tenet after $514M kickback deal
A shareholder filed a putative class-action lawsuit against Tenet Healthcare Oct. 7, claiming the Dallas-based for-profit hospital operator made false and misleading statements about its business, which caused shareholders to suffer losses.

8. Clinton, Trump debate healthcare: 7 statements, fact-checked
Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton swapped barbs Oct. 9 in the town hall debate, each accusing the other of living in "an alternative reality," or blaming lies "on the late great Abraham Lincoln."

9. Texas hospital explores bankruptcy
Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton, Texas, is in the process of filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to a KTRK news report.
