In the report, Alexandra Normington, a spokeswoman with CCHHS, said the county plans to eliminate 320 positions by the end of 2016, nearly 100 of which are already vacant.
More than half of affected employees are administrative in nature, and the rest are largely technicians, according to CCHHS. Fewer than five registered nurses were impacted.
The health system told employees these changes, most of which take effect Nov. 30, are necessary to realize the goals in its strategic plan and meet the fiscal year 2017 budget.
The health system said its FY 2017 budget calls for adding 450 new jobs “in key areas,” according to the report. CCHHS said the transition will allow Cook County “to adapt to the changing healthcare environment as a modern health system, build new expertise in some areas and add additional capacity in others.”
