UPMC Negotiating Settlement for NLRB Complaint

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is negotiating a settlement with the National Labor Relations Board to resolve a complaint that it hindered union-organizing efforts at two of its hospitals, according to a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review report.

The NLRB filed the complaint against UPMC in December 2012, claiming UPMC and its managers “implicitly threatened employees with job loss” because they supported the SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania union, according to the report.

An NLRB official said an administrative law hearing for today has been rescheduled for Feb. 20, pending settlement negotiations, according to the report. Both the NLRB official and a UPMC spokeswoman declined to comment on the possible settlement, according to the report.
