UnitedHealthcare announced the winners of its annual “Well Deserved” award, an honor given to organizations that demonstrate commitment to improving the health and well-being of their employees through comprehensive and innovative wellness programs.
This is the second straight year that Medline, a global medical supply manufacturer and distributor, has received the award. UnitedHealthcare presented a Golden Apple award to the company to honor its multiyear distinction and ongoing commitment to employee health and well-being. The company’s diverse wellness program features the following:
- Free, on-site biometric screenings, health risk assessment tools, flu shots, mammograms and health seminars at many locations.
- Subsidized cafeteria and vending machines at various locations with color-coded nutrition information.
- A robust ergonomic program for employees with more than 700 kangaroo desks to encourage standing instead of sitting in the office.
Medline also offers wellness challenges and has a staffed fitness center at its corporate office. In addition, the company’s call center in Dubuque, Iowa created an indoor walking track as well as a meditation room for stress management.
According to The National Business Group on Health, “research shows that healthy employees have lower health care costs; are more productive, creative and resilient; and provide greater intellectual capital to the organization.”
