Senate leaders promised Ms. Collins they’d include Alexander-Murray and reinsurance measures in their year-end funding bill to offset the negative effects of the tax bill’s repeal of the individual insurance mandate. However, Ms. Collins Wednesday she would not hold leaders to that promise in an effort to quickly pass a stopgap funding bill and avoid a government shutdown.
However, Congressional leaders said they would address Ms. Collins’ proposals in the new year, and they reportedly have President Trump’s support.
“We believe we will work with the House to get those passed,” a White House official told The Hill. “We think that we’ll be in a more comfortable place in January to get that passed.”
