Top 10 Hospital-Owned Urgent Care Operators

Increasingly, hospitals are getting into the urgent care space, and, according to research from Merchant Medicine, the top hospitals owned 573 urgent care clinics across the country. The top private urgent care operators, on the other hand, owned 1,201 clinics as of March 1.

The following are the 10 hospitals and health systems that owned the most urgent care clinics at the start of the month, according to Merchant Medicine.

1. Dignity (San Francisco) [Note: Dignity Health acquired U.S. HealthWorks, a large urgent care center operator, in 2012]: 152 clinics
2. Aurora Health (Milwaukee, Wis.): 30
3. Intermountain Healthcare (Salt Lake City): 28
4. Carolinas HealthCare (Charlotte, N.C.): 24
5. Centra Care (Orlando, Fla.): 23
6. HealthPartners (St. Louis Park, Minn.) [Note: HealthPartners includes Park Nicollet health Services’ entities]: 23
7. Providence Health & Services (Renton, Wash.): 21
8. Sutter Urgent Care, part of Sutter Medical Foundation (Sacramento, Calif.): 19
9. Baptist South Florida (Coral Gables): 17
10. St. John Providence Health System (Warren, Mich.): 17
