Mr. Smith retired in 2013 after 37 years with Baptist Health..He led three hospitals between 1980 and 1995. While Mr. Smith was CEO, Baptist Health went from $400 million in net revenue to over $1.6 billion. Under his leadership, Baptist grew its physician network to more than 400 employed physicians and more than 1,600 independent physicians.
“We are saddened by the death of a man whose quiet determination and consistent vision led the way for Baptist Health to expand its mission and provide quality care close to home for thousands of Kentuckians,” said Allen Rudd, chairman of Baptist Health’s board of directors.
