Hospital or healthcare systems are adopting best practices for leadership development at a higher rate than freestanding hospitals, according to the National Healthcare Leadership Survey.
The survey reflects the extent to which healthcare organizations have implemented certain evidence-based leadership development practices. Hospitals affiliated with systems evidently implemented these practices more than individual hospitals. On a scale from 1-7, systems reported a 4.87 rate of leadership development while independent hospitals reported a rate of 3.69. A score of one reflects “not at all” while seven reflects “a great deal.”
The most widely implemented best practices for leadership development varied between hospitals and systems. Hospitals reported the broad use of behavioral interviewing for employee selection, while systems reported a wide implementation of practices, or performance management, to hold managers accountable.
