Steward Health would like the authority to lay off staff and cut services. With this authority, Steward may consider closing Landmark’s maternity and psychiatric wards, according to the report. Steward officials say a key issue is a decision by Thundermist Health Center in Woonsocket, R.I., to send maternity patients to Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, R.I., instead of Landmark, according to the report.
Steward lawyers are due in Superior Court March 9 to add the new terms and extend the original merger agreement.
