Eager customers began to line up at 6:00 a.m. for the April 21 grand opening of the coffee shop in Johannesburg.
Starbucks plans to open 12 to 15 more stores in South Africa over the next two years, according to Carlo Gonzaga, CEO of Taste Holdings, Starbucks’ licensee in the country.
Other businesses are doing the same. Domino’s Pizza has more than 75 stores in South Africa, while H&M and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts opened locations there last year.
