At the Monday parish council meeting, the board’s current chairman, John Joseph Landry III, will officially resign at request of the District Attorney’s Office, according to the report. Mr. Landry agreed to resign due to his connection to a case involving obstruction of justice and sexual misconduct in office. He was arrested in June for filling false public records and conspiracy to file false records. Mr. Landry signed off on fraudulent community service paperwork at the request of former District Attorney Harry Morel Jr., who was accused of granting leniency to a woman in exchange for sexual favors.
Council members told the St. Charles Herald Guide they did not have nominees for the board yet and will be accepting nominations at their Oct. 17 meeting. They plan to have a nominee for the board on Nov. 14.
Councilwoman Mary Clulee, who also sits on the hospital board, told the newspaper she thinks the chairperson will be chosen from the board’s existing members.
