Southcoast Health to lay off 70

Due to financial issues, New Bedford, Mass.-based Southcoast Health plans to lay off 70 employees, according to a WLNE-TV report.

The three-hospital health system faced a 3 percent deficit in its operating budget, according to the report.

In addition to layoffs, the system also put a freeze on hiring efforts as well as wages. Southcoast will also look into consolidation and eliminating repetitive programs.
