Seattle's tax on sugary drinks earned the city $10.5 million in its first six months, according to The Hill.
The city passed the tax last June, and collected $4.7 million in the first quarter of 2018 and $5.8 million in the second quarter. Supporters of the tax hoped it would discourage customers from buying unhealthy sodas, though it is unclear what effect the tax has had on purchasing habits.
Other cities have attempted to pass similar legislation though they have faced significant opposition from beverage industry groups.
