Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said he does not believe Congress will try to tackle healthcare legislation again in 2017, according to Reuters.
Multiple Republican efforts to repeal and replace the ACA have stalled in 2017, and bipartisan legislation to fund cost-sharing subsidies and stabilize insurance markets have received little support from the GOP.
Mr. Ryan says he favors a more conservative cost-sharing bill, like the one proposed by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, which would repeal the ACA's employer and individual mandates, but added he "Can't imagine we can do that this year."
In the final months of 2017, Mr. Ryan says Congress will instead focus on tax reform and legislation that would avoid a potential government shutdown in December.
