Richard Margulis named 'Outstanding CEO': 5 things to know

Richard T. Margulis, president and CEO of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in Patchogue, N.Y., has been named a Long Island "Outstanding CEO" by Long Island Business News.

The annual Outstanding CEO program "celebrates Long Island's top executives and signature firms and organizations, recognizing those who have consistently demonstrated remarkable leadership skills, integrity, values, vision and a commitment to excellence, financial performance, community and diversity."

Here are five things to know about Mr. Margulis.

1. Mr. Margulis, a resident of Brookhaven, N.Y., served as Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center executive vice president and COO before being named president and CEO in 2013.

2. During Mr. Margulis' time as CEO, the 306-bed, acute-care community hospital has launched a $60 million capital campaign to build the new Knapp Cardiac Care Center, according to a news release.

3. Mr. Margulis began his career as a radiologic technologist and while working full time, earned his undergraduate degree in healthcare administration from St. Joseph's College and a master's degree in business administration from Dowling College. 

4. Mr. Margulis is an adjunct professor in healthcare and business courses for the Professional and Graduate Studies program at St. Joseph's College. 

5. Mr. Margulis is a member of the boards of the Long Island Health Network and the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council and a member of the American College of Health Care Executives, the Healthcare Association of New York State and the American Hospital Association.
