The board is asking for an injunction of the closing, which is scheduled to occur at the end of the week. The board is arguing that the 1994 merger agreement between Suburban General and West Penn guarantees the hospital remain an acute-care facility, according to the report.
West Penn announced the closing of emergency and inpatient services at the hospital in May, due to low volumes. It plans to continue outpatient services at the facility.
