Nurses From 7 Sutter Health Hospitals Walked Off Job

Approximately 4,500 nurses from seven Sutter Health hospitals in the Bay Area of California walked off their jobs yesterday, protesting changes to their sick leave policies and healthcare premium costs, according to a Modesto Bee report.

Nurses were originally expected to strike at 10 Sutter Health hospitals.

Sutter Health officials and the California Nurses Association have been in contract negotiations for more than a year. Each hospital negotiates its own contract with nurses.

Sutter Health officials have denied any proposed changes to the nurses' sick days, but a nurse on the bargaining unit of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland, Calif., said the hospital was trimming paid leave days by 12 to 17 total, according to the report.
