The approximately 340 nurses are represented by Connecticut Health Care Associates, part of the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees. The union is working to negotiate a new contract with the hospital. The nurses’ previous contract expired Sept. 30.

The union is at odds with the hospital’s plan to transition nurses’ defined-benefit pensions into defined contribution plans as well as salary increases.
