The legislation now moves to Governor Beverly Perdue for approval.
Under the plan, hospitals will pay a $215 million annual assessment, which will be used to draw additional federal matching funds for the Medicaid program. Hospitals will recoup $370 million through reimbursements as a result of the tax, and the state Department of Health and Human Services will receive $43 million, according to the report.
