Here are three things to know about the layoffs.

1. The timeline for the layoffs is unclear.

2. Montefiore attributed the layoffs to rising costs as well as reimbursement challenges.

“Like many healthcare systems in the region, Montefiore is facing a significant rise in the cost of supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals. These rising costs are not offset: Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates have remained virtually stagnant,” Tracy Gurrisi, Montefiore’s director of public relations, wrote in an email to The Journal News.

3. In writing about the layoffs, Ms. Gurrisi also noted Montefiore has historically achieved success helping laid-off employees find new positions within the health system.
