Minnesota Governor to Accept $250M in Medicaid Money

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty announced Tuesday that the state will accept $250 million in federal medical assistance, assuaging the fears of those who thought he might turn the money down, according to a Bloomberg Businessweek report.

Mr. Pawlenty previously ordered state agencies to reject grants associated with health reform. The Medicaid money was approved separately as part of a stimulus package for the state of Minnesota.

The Medicaid money may be necessary in the coming months, as Minnesota’s available cash may drop to $100 million by December — $300 million lower than the amount the state prefers to have on hand.
