Mr. Mcdermott reportedly hid the miniature camera in a pen, which was found in the restroom during a routine cleaning March 29. The pen had only been there for a short period of time, according hospital officials.

Hospital officials notified police March 29 that a device was found in a staff-only restroom. Immediately after identifying the culprit, the hospital fired Mr. Mcdermott.

Police looking into the incident found the device contained multiple videos of people undressing in the restroom.

Mr. Mcdermott was charged April 5 with three counts of photographing an unsuspecting nude person and one count of possession of a wiretap device.

“Protecting the safety, security and privacy of our colleagues, patients and visitors is a top priority,” a spokesperson for Lahey Hospital told The Boston Globe. “We take any activity of this nature very seriously, and we will continue to work closely with the Burlington Police Department as they conduct their investigation.”

No patients or visitors were impacted, as this was a staff-only restroom.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
